Testing can be a stressful event for some people. The more prepared you are, the less anxiety you will feel. Below are some tips found in the book Concentration by Sam Horn on how to make studying for a test easier:
- You can make studying more productive by setting up an environment that is comfortable, well-lit and clutter-free to reduce distractions. Make this the place you always go to study.
- When studying several subjects, focus on the easiest topics when your energy level is at its lowest and tackle the hardest topics when you have the most energy.
- When using a highlighter, use it sparingly and only highlight the points that are most important.
On the day of the test, there are a few things you can do to make it less stressful:
- Be sure to bring any log-in information or any materials that may be needed to take the test. Not having what you need will shake up your nerves and your confidence.
- Make sure that you have specific directions to the Test Center. You can always make a trial run prior to the day of the test, so that there is no question of whether you know where to go. Also, have a contact number in case you face any type of dilemma on the way.
- Leave plenty of time to get to the Center. Definitely better early than late. Some tests have a late grace period and if you are not present before that time is up, you may not be able to test. Besides, running late will send your stress level throught the roof.
Most importantly… Relax! Be confident. Believe that you can do it!
