Application Tips and Tricks

Before PC’s became affordable, and we had the luxury of using WordPerfect or MagicPrint for word processing(does anyone remember this?), the keyboard had to be used for navigation as much as typing. Yes, believe it or not, we haven’t always had the mouse to open and close files, or copy and paste!

Even though we’ve come a long way, those keyboard shortcuts can still be used to improve efficiency and productivity!

Here are a few to practice:

Ctrl N Creates a new document, Excel spreadsheet or PowerPoint presentation
Ctrl O Opens the dialog box for existing files
Ctrl W Closes documents
Ctrl X Cuts a selection
Ctrl C Copies a selection
Ctrl V Pastes whatever was copied or cut last

There’s many more keyboard shortcuts that can be incorporated into daily usage, but try practicing these until you use them without even thinking.

You’ll be surprised at how much time can be saved every day!
